About a month ago I was approached by a company regarding a project that didn't sound very interesting to me at this stage of my life.
After a few days of thought, I realized they have all the resources to create a radical shift in the business I've grown up in and I pitched them a completely different idea on a follow-up call. We were both enthousiastic about the idea and opportunity. So much so that one of their executives flew out from New York yesterday to meet in person and discuss the proposition in detail.
I think we have a blueprint that will appeal to artists (signed and unsigned) and consumers alike. Honestly it has me pretty excited, especially since it follows my model of value for value.
I've been doing a lot of online and location research and my findings are backing up the theory.
Technology has severley disrupted the music business and related industries. Creation and distribution just being two of the massive changes. Music product value has been diminished to a $0.99 track download. Music radio has been consolidated to only a few playlists determining airplay country-wide. Yet, "labels" still dominate the system. Artists still want to 'get signed' and make millions, allowing for only a handful to actually 'make it'. Time to zig where the majors zag.
Now I need your help.
I need input from artists and music consumers alike.
For artists; what are your expectations from a 'label' (I don't want to make up any new names here, lets just call a spade a spade). What services do you expect and what is a reasonable 'deal'?
What about creative control and ownership?
What is your ultimate goal. What do you want to achieve?
And finally, Product. What should your product really be? What do you music buyers/consumers want? What value do you place on a music product?
I have many more questions, but this should be enough to get a discussion going, please post below in the comments.
I will continue to update readers here on my blog as work progresses.
Tick...tick...tick...

John Ward is a retired Ad executive in the UK (Gitmo Nation East) who publishes his investigative journalism exclusively on his blog title "The Slog"
I've been following his work for almost a year.
He wrote a seminal essay today about the ever tightening noose around the vocal chords of the independent voice. It appears he is being systematically shut down. Not because there is some evil plan to do so, but because the system is now being fine tuned to put the Citizen/User/Individual squarely on the bottom rung of every food chain.
Dvorak and I have been proclaiming for years that the UK is a beta test for the global police state, where we are told to shut up, sit down and take our meds.
Read John's piece and consider your own options for protecting your privacy, your (online) speech and general welfare, in a world increasingly controlled by elites in centralized non elected organizations.
I was particularly pleased to see John's suggestion of following his work through his RSS feed, which I have now added to the No Agenda News Network river of news to help exposes that page's tens of thousands of readers to his work and insight.
While John may not realize it directly, his instincts are correct. For no company or organization can turn off, shut down, or suspend RSS. Sure, a feed can be disrupted or broken, but can be restored within seconds elsewhere. The No Agenda News Network readers may suffer a temporary disruption, but probably won't miss a single post.
Once again, The Slog is leading the way forward in the fight. I applaud my brother in arms.

Pink-haired Hilda and oddball loner Benji are not your typical teenagers. Instead of going to parties or hanging out at the mall, they comb the city streets and suburban culs-de-sac of Los Angeles for sites of celebrity murder and suicide. Bound by their interest in the macabre, Hilda and Benji neglect their schoolwork and their social lives in favor of prowling the most notorious crime scenes in Hollywood history and collecting odd mementos of celebrity death.
Kathy Charles is in the studio to talk about her first novel and life in Los Angeles

A weird 'double post' bug appeared on the platform we use for posting to noagendanewsnetwork.com and noagendastream.com as well as podcasts.nashownotes.com (it's a great platform and very important in our infrastructure as you can see!)
Dave Winer, the developer behind 'Blork' correctly pointed out to me on the mailing list for the system that the development of such a beautiful tool cannot be a one way street.
Seeing as there are now over 300 active producers using the system, who can alls provide valuable feedback on new features and iterations in the process, I am making a call to arms to join the mail list and actively start working with Dave and myself.
If you are coming to report bugs, there are guidelines that must be followed.
Onward!

This morning on the No Agenda Podcast, my partner John C Dvorakand I were discussing our theory that President Obama won't run for a second term.
John asked who would be the front runner for the party. I didn't have an answer.
While doing some (seemingly) unlrelated research today it hit me.
She's perfect, and I am starting to think she's even been set up for this some time ago.
Why? I'll have more on Sunday's show...
(post script) I see that giffords2012.com was registered on January 8 2011, the very same day of the Tucson shooting.

At the start of Vorhaus's entertaining sequel to The California Roll, grifter Radar Hoverlander, who's been trying to fly beneath the radar and turn over a new leaf in Santa Fe, N.Mex., intervenes in a domestic dispute he overhears on the street, using a clever ruse to stop an armed, drugged-out man from harming his wife and young daughter. The posting of these heroics on YouTube brings back into Radar's life his estranged con man father, Woody, who walked out on the family when Radar was eight. Interested in more than just repairing strained family ties, Woody needs his son's help, having taken ,000 from a Las Vegas casino boss in exchange for steering a nonexistent wealthy Saudi prince to that boss's operation.
John is an interesting guy, he works on situation comedy shows from this states in foreign markets, and is a skilled poker player. He talks to us from, where else, his hotel room in Las Vegas

The President just signed an executive order that, by my analysis, gives Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a very broad set of powers to start an online phychological warefare campaign, using "a wide range of communications technologies, including digital tools" in order to "public communications activities directed at audiences abroad and targeted against violent extremists and terrorist organizations, especially al-Qa'ida and its affiliates and adherents, with the goal of using communication tools to reduce radicalization by terrorists and extremist violence and terrorism that threaten the interests and national security of the United States."
Sounds like Hillary's Lucifer's team of "Techno Experts" is about to be deployed on a massive scale, more than the 5000 she has admitted to.

In Meister's inventive novel, Quinn Braverman is happily living in a Long Island suburb with her beloved husband, Lewis, and their son, Isaac. But in Quinn's basement is a portal to another life, a life in which Quinn didn't choose stable Lewis over her shock-jock boyfriend, Eugene. Quinn avoids the lure of the portal for years, until she becomes pregnant with her second child and learns that the child might be seriously disabled. Quinn escapes through the portal one day, only to find that her mother, Nan, who committed suicide soon after Quinn married Lewis, is alive and well in this other reality.

Based on the wildly popular website, My Parents Were Awesome shares heartwarming and hilarious essays by sons and daughters--including Jamie Deen, Christian Lander, Dave Itzkoff, Katherine Center, Laurie Notaro, and Holly Peterson, who's tell tales of their folks before babies, mortgages, and receding hairlines: the mom and dad who traveled by VW bus to see Led Zeppelin for $1, the grandmother whose halter top and shorts belied her perfect demeanor, the father whose wanderlust passed down to his equally nomadic daughter. Accompanied by treasured vintage photographs, these stories will make you laugh, melt your heart, and spark your own reflections of Mom and Dad.

I turned 47 today.
I really never have cared much for my own birthday celebration, except for the important numbers like 16 (driving) 18 (drinking) 21 (legal?) 33 (lucky) 42 (the answer to all questions in the universe) and soon 50.
WTF?! 50 is just around the corner. I certainly don't feel like what I think the number represents. My body appears to be defying the number's status as well. Fingers crossed, if I keep eating my peas all will be well.
For the first time this year I checked my dusty facebook account and was initially delighted to see almost 100 well wishers had posted on my wall. I'm pretty sure, after checking the actual messages, that a good 80% of them just see my birthday pop up on their screen and were able to muster up just enough effort to write the obligatory 4 or 5 words.
The real love this year came from emails (yes, I still consider that to be a personal medium) and I'll even add twitter to the list. But above all, yesterday Ms Micky organized 'the kids' who came over to throw me a birthday dinner at the house.
They made a complete mexican, theme. Christina's boyfriend (gasp!) Juan cooked the main meal with Franklin (Micky's former PA from Amsterdam who is visiting) and she baked a good old betty crocker double layer white cake with chocolate (dark, red, white and green) frosting, just like my Mom used to make.
Combined with pickings from the 5 different potted pepper plants Micky gave me as a present, it was a true feast!
Food is love, especially when prepared and presented as a gift.
Followed by a pinata smashing, spewing choclate gold coins and water pistols that resulted in an intense but brief water fight and coffee with iFart apps by the firepit, I think I'm living up to my respectful age nicely :-)
Thank you Christina, Micky, Juan and Franklin for an unforgettable 47th, as well to those who took the trouble to give me an actual telephone call. In this day and info age, it's that kind of stuff that really matters.

I just finished reading a paper from Rolf Dobelli, sent to me by a thoughtful producer of the No Agenda Podcast.
It really helped me understand the success of our show. In a shocking and unexpected way actually. Here's the synopsis:
200 years ago we invented a toxic form of knowledge called "news." The time has come to recognize the detrimental effects that news has on individuals and societies, and to take the necessary steps to shield yourself from its dangers.
This is a very important paper to read for anyone who considers themselves a news junkie or journalist. Or just having a brain you want to maintain properly for your long term health.
I have created a copy of the pdf file with highlights of certain passages for my own use here.
